FAQ - additional information about the course and application process

Who is eligible to take part in the course?

Fresh from university postgraduates (i. e. PhD students) through seasoned academics with many years of research experience.

I have a company / startup. Can I apply?
Our course is basically available to researchers but we welcome all people with their own ideas as far as these fit into the broad range of life sciences (see below). But if you still are a budding entrepreneur and you want to improve your skills to become more self-confident with your venture, please, apply.

I did attend the 1st edition of the course. Can I apply again with another project?
No. We strive to have a completely new set of paticipants to make this course available to a possibly large number of people.

I have recently started my new research project (for PhD study or as a Post-doc) and I don't have sufficient results yet. Can I apply?
We're looking for ideas, not necessarily arising directly from your current research project. It may be even your  previous one. The stage of the development might play role, however it's more important how convinced you are  in turning your idea / project into a future viable commercial opportunity. If you're convinced enough, don't hesitate to apply to the course!

What topics of ideas/projects are you looking for?
We gladly accept applications from researchers in the broad range of the life sciences field. It encompasses roughly biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, biomedical technologies, life systems technologies, nutraceuticals, cosmeceuticals, food processing, environmental and biomedical devices and many more. If your idea matches any of these disciplines and is commercially exploitable then you're welcome!

How many places do you offer?
The number of places is limited. We offer  up to 20 spaces for participants. We can decide to enroll a smaller number of participants.

How much does the course cost?
Absolutely nothing! Zero! It's free of charge! Plus you'll get a valuable package of profound knowledge from the experienced course leader. In exchange we expect your full commitment to the development of your idea / project on those three consecutive days of the course.

How will course participants work?
We designed the course to stimulate interaction among participants by working in teams. Therefore at the begin of the course all participants will be asked by the course leader to form up to 6-8 teams (depending on the total number of people subscribed). Nevertheless you will still work on your own idea / project.

Do I need to bring anything with me to the course?
The only thing we ask is to bring your own computer (laptop, netbook) that will be essential for efficient work during the course.

I have an important experiment in my lab on one of the course days. I simply cannot attend. Can I leave your course for a while?
If you have any experiments running in your lab or other affairs that could in any way interfere with your course duties (except emergencies), please, don't apply as we won't be able to guarantee you receive a certificate.
We don't believe you cannot manage your affairs carefully prior to the course beginn taking into consideration that you want to learn inter alia how to manage a biotech company which is an extraordinary difficult task. On the other way be simply fair to other participants and keep in mind that this kind of course would cost you about 2k EUR if you would have to pay for it.

I don't want to reveal my IP to other course participants. What should I do?
First, while applying (and later during the course) we don't require applicants/participants to disclose a very detailed information about the technology or invention that the idea is based on. We do expect not all ideas (IP) might be patent or otherwise protected. However, if you are afraid enough, simply do not apply to the course at all to avoid any risk. Or you can simply ask your local TTO about your IP status. If despite everything you will decide to apply and we will choose your idea / project, we will ask all course participants to sign an NDA form altough we stand on the standpoint it might not be necessary.

What is the language of the course?
The course will be held  entirely in English.
It is, therefore, essential that all participants understand and communicate in English fluently.
In case of doubt we reserve the right to request English test results from any applicant or to otherwise proof the fluency of spoken English prior to admission to the course.

Do you provide transportation and accomodation?
No. The transport and accommodation is a personal responsibility of the selected candidates.
But don't worry, we take care of you: you'll get a filling lunch, hot tea or coffee and  refreshing drinks during the course.

What is the order of admission to the course?
The participants will NOT be chosen on the "first come, first served" principle. Therefore the time you apply for the course is not that much important, as long as it is before October 31, 2015 11:59 p.m. CET - the final date for online application.
All applications will be subject to selection (by the course leader and the BioTech-IP team) based on the topic matching the scope of the course and ensuring diversity of ideas among participants.

How will I know if I have been admitted?
We will inform you about the approval of your application by the November 2, 2015.

Will I receive a certificate?
Yes, upon completing the course you will receive a certificate of attendance.

Who should I contact in any matters related to the application process and during the course?
In case of questions please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Hubert Ludwiczak from the BioTech-IP team.
e-mail: hubert.ludwiczak@biotech-ip.pl or tel. +48 22 5970784

We look forward to welcoming you to the 3-Day Bioentrepreneurship Crash Course!
